LICENSING
You own what you make here.
Effective 24 September 2026. On a paid plan the renders are yours, commercially and without credit. We never publish customer work, and we never train on paid output.
Your renders are private
We do not publish, display, share or distribute anything you render. A render becomes visible to anyone outside your account only when you share it yourself, or give us written permission. The work shown on our own site is ours, produced in-house for that purpose.
- No public feed and no default visibility of any kind
- No use of your renders in our marketing, ever, unless you ask for it in writing
- Staff access only where you ask for support, or where we must investigate abuse or a security incident
Paid plans: the output is yours
Subject to your compliance with the terms, we assign you every right we hold in the images you generate on a paid plan, and grant you a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use them for any purpose. Use them commercially without restriction and without crediting us — in advertising, on product pages, in print, on packaging.
- No revenue threshold and no separate commercial licence to buy
- Rights survive cancellation for everything generated while your plan was active
- A chargeback, a refund, or a material breach ends the assignment for the frames it covers
Free plan: non-commercial, with credit
On the free plan we keep ownership of the output and grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use it for non-commercial purposes only. Free renders carry a visible watermark, and where you publish or display one you must also credit it "Created with RenderNode.com".
- Non-commercial means no use connected to revenue — no advertising, no product pages, no packaging, no resale, no client work
- Upgrade and re-render to obtain an unwatermarked frame and full commercial rights to it
- This is our own licence, not a Creative Commons licence; a Creative Commons licence grants rights to the public, and your renders are never public
What copyright actually says
We grant rights two ways because the law here is unsettled. Courts and the United States Copyright Office hold that a work generated without meaningful human authorship is not copyrightable, and that writing a prompt is generally not enough authorship on its own. A promise to transfer copyright could therefore transfer nothing.
- We assign every right we hold, and separately licence the rest, so your position does not depend on how that question settles
- Where your own creative contribution is substantial — the sketch you drew, the selections and edits you made — any copyright arising from it is yours, and we claim none of it
- No competitor offers more certainty than this; a service promising you plain copyright ownership is describing law that does not currently exist
- We offer no indemnity while the service is in alpha, so clear third-party rights before you publish
We do not train on paid work
Renders generated on a paid plan are never used to train or fine-tune our models. Neither are the sketches, photographs or material samples you upload, on any plan. Unreleased product work stays out of our training data.
- Free-plan outputs may be used for training, which is part of what makes that plan free
- Uploads are never used for training on any plan, paid or free
- We process all renders transiently to operate the service, to investigate abuse, and to diagnose faults; that is an internal use and never a public one
What you upload stays yours
You keep all ownership and intellectual property rights in the sketches, photographs, material samples and other content you upload. We claim nothing in them. We use them to produce your render, and for no other purpose.
- You warrant that you own, or hold the licences, consents and releases for, everything you upload
- Do not upload third-party trademarks, copyrighted characters, or the likeness of an identifiable person without the clearances to do so
- You are responsible for clearance, model releases and property releases on the work you produce
Assets shared with you
Where another user or an organisation shares an asset with you inside RenderNode, the person sharing keeps all ownership and copyright in it. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use that asset solely within the platform, and solely to produce work under your own permitted use.
- The licence does not let you export, redistribute or use a shared asset outside RenderNode
- It ends automatically when the asset is withdrawn, or when your access is revoked
- Renders you produce using a shared asset stay subject to the sharer's rights in that asset
Limits that apply to every plan
A few restrictions hold regardless of what you pay.
- No reselling or redistributing outputs as stock imagery, templates, or any other asset library
- No using outputs to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine-learning model
- No representing a render as an unretouched photograph where that would mislead a buyer
- We make no warranty that an output is original, or that it does not resemble existing work
